In the News

Mens Sana Incorpore Sano | Bishop John Tong Hon | August 28th, 2008

Personally, I enjoy sports, not just as a spectator but also as a player. Although I am no longer a young man, I still play basketball occasionally. My performance was never great, and now I run more slowly, yet a basketball game is fun, good physical training and a chance to socialize. Exercise is good for both the body and the mind, "mens sana in corpore sano." I could not deal with the pressure and anxiety of my work without daily prayer. I likewise feel that physical activity is good for all of us... Read on >>

Sessions:

GVS on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. All men (15 years +) are welcome. Be prepared to lose that Christmas Carp.

Something New: Wednesday Women's Swim 1:00pm to 2:pm at PineCliff Resort's Pool

Please contact me by phone at 756-6410 or by email.

Needed: Kid's Coaches

Also, because of other commitments neither I nor John-Henry will  be able to take all of the kid's sessions as we have for the last many years. Since the kid's really thrive physically and spiritually under the bounds of friendly competition and as our Holy Father said yesterday in his meeting with the champion Ferrari team, "The Church considers sports activity... a valid educational instrument, especially for young generations." it would be a deprivation in these long cold wintery months to skip over their sports nights. Please help us put together a "coach schedule" by signing up.

Feb 10 - Kid's Night (coach: James Hanlon)
Feb 17 - Men's Night (lead: TBA)
Feb 24 - Kid's Night (coach: TBA)

Please pass this message on to people who may be interested in participating.

Christ's peace,

Tony

Combermere Canoe Race 2003: Results!

Junior Winners: Ben Baklinski and Andrew Hamon
Senior Winners: Joseph Hamon and Jas Baklinski

Congratulations winners and a big thanks to all participants, helpers -- especially the Paternaude family for the use of their power boat, the Hanlons for the use of their beach front villa, and all those loving women who turned the pot-luck into a Sunday feast.

Here are some photos. See you in 2004!

Metro Toronto Zoo 2002: The field trip to the Metro Zoo was a great success. The rain which caressed us for a couple hours added to the adventure and thinned the human population to near expedition numbers. Check out our Zoo Photo Gallery below. The screensaver (1.8mb) is also available.

Sport Nights:

All indoor sport nights are held at George Vanier School in Combermere, Thursday's from 6:30 to 8:30pm. There are presently two groups, the kids and the men, alternating weekly sessions.

Considerations:

Kids Nights: Ages 3 to 14. Tots 3-5 require that a guardian be present to "actively" assist and supervise.
Men's Nights: Ages 15+

Donations are being collected after each session so that we can make a donation to GV School sport fund. One half will be used to fund some of our own Outer activities such as bus transportation, admission fees, and a summer pizza picnic.

May 20, 2004: Men's Sport Night: indoor soccer, volleyball camp, volleyball, special events and social at eh Church dock afterwards.
